Course content
Teaching Topics: 1. Public health - importance in the organization and management of health care 2. Population health indicators and their importance 3. Social determinants of health in an international context 4. Social Responsibility of Medicine, Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030 and Strategic Framework for the Czech Republic 5. Ethically controversial situations in early life and relation to childhood 6. Ethically controversial situations in relation to persons with limited legal capacity 7. Ethically contentious situations in relation to older people

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to open a gateway to understanding public health, the health care system and health care administration. The seminars will explain the social determinants of health and disease, including the importance of health literacy, in a national and international context using interactive group learning methods; the importance of demographic indicators for assessing population health will be demonstrated; the importance of the social responsibility of medicine will be emphasised, including emphasis on basic ethical principles; general ethical dilemmas in medicine will be presented and ethical controversies in contemporary medicine (at the beginning of life and in relation to children; in relation to the elderly and other social groups) will be practiced.
Ability to identify the social determinants of health in specific populations, to analyse social responsibility in medicine, ethical discourse, application of ethical principles to practical cases.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Active participation in seminars. Group discussion skills. Knowledge of demographic indicators of health. Skill in understanding the social determinants of health. Knowledge of international programmes and the 2030 Agenda. Ability to identify ethically questionable situations in medicine based on case studies. Experience in applying ethical principles to specific cases in medical practice.
