|
Cancer epidemiology, genetic background of tumor cell, carcinogenesis, theory of tumor origin, primary and secondary prevention, TNM. Oncological vigilance in differential diagnosis, rules of examination process, secondary prevention. Strategy of cancer treatment, decision making, treatment modalities. Current concept of radiotherapy, sources of ionizing radiation, technical equipment, basic radiobiology, major factors affecting radiation, brachytherapy and external beam therapy. Radiotherapy of the most frequent malignant tumors, radiotherapy of benign diseases. Early and late reactions - practise of diagnosis and management. Principles of cytotoxic chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. Chemotherapy: indications, adjutant, neoadjuvant and palliative chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy. Chemotherapy - practise of adverse reactions and management. Paliative and terminal care. Supportive treatment, psychosocial aspects in oncology. Practical teaching at clinics according to the division - practise of oncological examinations and care.

Students will gain a basic overview of the diagnosis and complex treatment of malignant tumours. The course focuses not only on radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted biological therapy, but also on supportive and symptomatic treatment. Special attention is also paid to prevention and screening programmes. Students will gain an overview of the trends in the development of oncological treatment of individual cancers and learn about the psychological and ethical aspects of cancer care.
Upon conclusion, students will be able to apply their knowledge of the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the daily care of patients with malignant tumors. |
