Course content
The first 2 days of teaching at the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Ostrava University Hospital: Development of infectious diseases, sepsis, septic shock. Acute viral hepatitis, diff. dg. hepatopathies, Purulent meningitis. Intensive care in infectious diseases. Clinical picture of HIV/AIDS. Infections in immunosuppressed persons. Imported diseases. Zoonoses and parasitic infections. Viral diarrheal diseases. Exanthematous diseases. Vaccination in children. Nosocomial infections, occupational infections of healthcare workers. Third day of teaching at the Infectious Diseases Department of the University Hospital Olomouc: Highly dangerous infections. Differential diagnosis of pneumonia. Antibiotic treatment of G+ infections. Antibiotic treatment of G- infections. Overview of antiviral treatment. Differential diagnosis of tonsillitis.

Learning outcomes
The student is introduced to general symptoms of infectious diseases, development of infectious diseases including sepsis and septic shock. His/her knowledge about common or less frequent bacterial, parasitic and viral infections is extended. The student obtains basic knowledge about diagnostic, differential diagnostics and therapy of common as well as significant import diseases. The student is introduced to vaccination against infectious diseases and to other form of prevention. The student obtains knowledge about department of infectious diseases, their hygienic-epidemiological regimen and about principles of isolation of patients.
After graduation, the student will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to commonly occurring infectious diseases (respiratory and diarrheal diseases, neuroinfections, viral hepatitis, herpetic infections and exanthematic diseases), to more frequent imported diseases and to patients with immunodeficiency (after organ transplantation or HIV infection). He will be able to recommend vaccination against some infectious diseases, but also to use the acquired knowledge to reduce the risk of occupational and nosocomial infections.
