| Course content |
|
The content of the course is an introduction to surgery, creating a basic volume of theoretical knowledge of general surgery (surgical propedeutics, acute abdomen) and individual surgical specialties (abdominal, thoracic, vascular, plastic surgery, traumatology, cardiac surgery). Each day of the block the internship consists of a practical exercise and a thematic seminar. The practical training includes examination of a patient in the inpatient ward, stay in the outpatient clinic or in the operating room. The practical exercises also include practice of surgical technique on a phantom. The practical training includes the analysis of case reports with the teachers. Participation in emergency services is an integral part of the practical training. In a follow-up seminar, specific topics of each area of surgery are discussed by means of a presentation and subsequent discussion.

Introduce the student to the fundamental principles of general surgery including acute abdomen, as well as acquire basic theoretical knowledge of surgical specialities (abdominal, thoracic, vascular, plastic surgery, traumatology, cardiosurgery). Practical training of surgical patient´s examination including patients with acute abdomen, operating theatre views or assistance.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to examine a surgical patient and will be oriented in diagnostic and therapeutic methods, as well as basic surgical skills (wound suturing, suture extraction). |

| Assessment methods and criteria |

Oral exam
Full and active attendance of practical trainings and seminars. During practical training we assess: - how the student has mastered the examination of a surgical patient and how he/she is able to apply the acquired knowledge of general and special surgery, - orientation in the diagnostic methods used in surgery, orientation in special surgery in the design of treatment. - The teaching block is followed by an oral exam with the final assessment of knowledge. |
