Course content
The content of the course is an introduction to surgery, creating a basic volume of theoretical knowledge of general surgery (surgical propedeutics, acute abdomen) and individual surgical specialties (abdominal, thoracic, vascular, plastic surgery, traumatology, cardiac surgery). Each day of the block internship consists of a practical exercise and a thematic seminar. The practical training includes examination of a patient in the inpatient ward, stay in the outpatient clinic or in the operating room. The practical exercises also include practice of surgical technique on a phantom. The practical training includes the analysis of case reports with the teachers. Participation in emergency services is an integral part of the practical training. In a follow-up seminar, specific topics of each area of surgery are discussed by means of a presentation and subsequent discussion.

Learning outcomes
The content of the course is an introduction to surgery, creating a basic volume of theoretical knowledge of general surgery (surgical propedeutics, acute abdomen) and individual surgical specialties (abdominal, thoracic, vascular, plastic surgery, traumatology, cardiac surgery).
After completing the course, the student will have the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for the examination of a surgical patient. The student will be oriented in diagnostic and therapeutic methods used in different surgical specialties.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Active attendance of practical trainings and seminars. During practical training we assess: - how the student has mastered the examination of a surgical patient and how he/she is able to apply the acquired knowledge of general and special surgery, - orientation in the diagnostic methods used in surgery, orientation in special surgery in the design of treatment. The teaching block is followed by an oral exam with the final assessment of knowledge.
