| Course content |
|
The course is designed as both theoretical and practical. Student gets familiar with the epidemiological method of work, which is used to study the development of the disease and the identification of the factors that affect or determine the disease. The epidemiological methodology aims to identify these factors, to objectively prove their role in disease development, and to design and verify appropriate preventive measures. The calculation of epidemiological indicators of disease frequency will be practiced. Student gets familiar with the designs of epidemiological descriptive and analytical studies. Participants will practice their recognition, analysis, and results interpretation on practical examples as well as with real scientific papers. Student gets familiar with the basics of evidence-based medicine as an integration of the best scientific evidence with clinical expertise and patients? values. The content of the course is general epidemiology. The process of spreading of infectious diseases in a population (epidemic process) and its regularities will be described in detail. Student will learn how to construct an epidemic curve, evaluate epidemiological trends, and use databases and ECDC system reports.
