Learning outcomes
The aim of the studio is to give students a basic overview of web design and its principles, rather than to train them as professional web designers or developers. Students will learn how to work with a brand's visual manual and acquire basic skills in composition, colour, typography, and image use in the context of the web. They will become familiar with the principles of UX/UI, responsive layout, and the basics of web theory (hosting, CMS, domains). Work will be done in Figma and the WordPress content management system. Based on the assignment, students will create a website design in Figma for a selected or original brand and implement it as a functional website in WordPress.
Upon completion of the module, the student will be able to: 1. Explain the basic principles of how the web works, distinguish between the roles of a domain, hosting and a content management system, and relate these concepts to the creation of a simple website; define the website?s communication objective and target audience, and design a clear content structure and navigation system appropriate to its purpose and the users? needs. 2. Create a design for a simple website and its basic interactive prototype; apply the principles of composition, colour scheme, typography and image handling, whilst adhering to the visual identity guidelines of the chosen brand; implement a functional website in accordance with the design, utilising the basic features of the editor. 3. Present and justify the design and implementation decisions; explain differences between the design and the final website; and identify the project?s strengths, limitations and opportunities for further improvement.
