Course objectives:

This course is dedicated to the development of Ukrainian literature in the period of modernism. We shall discuss the reaction of modernist literature to the elements of realism and romanticism as well as the historical context and the influence of development in culture and state. We shall focus on the movements and aesthetical streams in the Ukrainian literature of the given period and on the prominent representatives from each movement. Understanding this mosaic of contexts can help the students to understand the origins of current Ukrainian literature.
