Annotation in English
In my Thesis I deal with the Dutch rejection of the European Constitutional Treaty on 1st June 2005. I investigate reasons for rejection of the Treaty and attempt to see the issue in a broader view.
The Dutch ‘‘nee’ as such is complex and a broader framework should be adopted for analysis. The aim of my thesis therefore is to review the anticipated motives of the rejection of the Constitutional Treaty in the Netherlands and analyze the reasons behind the shocking rejection of the European Constitution, which was supposed to increase legitimacy, by the pro-European Dutch.
Regarding the broad nature of the topic I decided to focus on analyzing the issue firstly through second order election concept vs. issue voting concept. Secondly I deal with lack of a legitimacy of the European Union and the overall political situation in the Netherlands during that time. Thirdly I analyze the role of the campaigns in favor or against the European Constitution and their possible impact on the decision of the Dutch voters.

Research Plan
Introduction
1. Theoretic approaches to European referendum
2. The Dutch within the EU
3. The campaigns on the European Constitutional Treaty
Conclusion
hypotheses:
On the topic of the referendum on the European matters, people usually vote on the basis of their attitudes to the EU, rather than on the basis of domestic political concerns. The referendum on the European Constitutional Treaty in the Netherlands is a special because of nonexistent previous experience with referendums and the incumbent government's underestimation of it. Therefore the referendum resulted in voting on European issues but not on the question in referendum posed respectively European Constitutional Treaty.
The rejection of the European Constitutional Treaty was not caused by a general decrease in Dutch citizens' support for the European Union, but is connected with the negative reaction on the contemporary direction of the European Union in some selected issues, where the national political representation’s approach towards the European Union’s issues, changing nature of the EU policies and legitimacy issues played an important role.
