The thesis deals with the analysis of Baroque homiletic texts with an emphasis on the reflection of non-Catholic confessions. A selection of examples is used to show Christian confession issues from the perspective of Catholic preachers in the time period 1620-1773. The first part outlines the historical background that shaped the spiritual atmosphere of the lands of the Bohemian Crown in the Early Modern Era. A crucial milestone is the Battle of White Mountain and the subsequent decrees that admit Catholicism as the only legal religion and legitimize the means of recatholization, which include the formation of social and religious identity through homiletics. The religious orders, especially the Jesuits, undertook an important role in education. Using the example of Antonín Koniáš, I tried to show the typical Jesuit activities of the Early Modern Era, and at the same time to refute the stereotypical perception of this priest as "book-burner" according to older Czech historiography and political ideologization. It briefly discusses the religious diversity in the Post-White Mountain Era in Bohemia and Moravia, the specificity of individual denominations and their mutual coexistence.
The final chapter presents excerpts from Bohemian homiletic texts that mention non-Catholic churches and movements in various contexts. Catholic preachers used both biblical and non-biblical sources to identify them in their spiritual discourses. The Holy Scripture contained a number of passages that provided an opportunity to distinguish between the "true" Catholic faith and the "heretical ideas" spread by the "false prophets". The guarantee of salvation and the hope of an afterlife was one of the arguments that Catholics were fond of using. The non-biblical identifications are a colourful mix of expressive terms and ingenious metaphors based on unclean animals, useless and annoying flora or simply human swear words. These authentic texts best illustrate how non-Catholic denominations and their adherents were perceived by the Catholic Church.
