Dále definuje minimalismus, který se vyznačuje například strohostí, jednoduchostí vyjadřovacích prostředků i syntaxe, omezeným vhledem do příběhu či náznaky. Práce představuje i konkrétní styl Beattieové včetně témat jejích děl, kterými jsou honba za štěstím, touha po lásce či deziluze. Dále je nastíněn výchozí text dvou povídek, který je následně přeložen a okomentován v komentáři, ve kterém jsou odůvodněna překladatelská řešení.

This thesis focuses on Ann Beattie, identifies her as a minimalist and explains the importance of her work. It also presents minimalism which manifests through austerity, simple syntax and choice of words, a limited insight into the stories or implications. The thesis presents Ann Beattie's specific style including some of the themes in her work, including striving for love, chasing happiness and disillusionment. The source text, comprising two short stories, is then analyzed, translated and the translation choices are explained in the subsequent commentary.

Zároveň přinese analýzu vybraných povídek s důrazem na rysy minimalismu, představí překladatelské postupy nutné pro adekvátní převod autorského stylu. Práce bude obsahovat překlad vybraných povídek, jenž bude následně okomentován v překladatelském komentáři, který přiblíží jednotlivá překladatelská řešení.
