The aim of the thesis was to determined changes in the hydration status
of professional youth ice hockey players. In the thesis 23 players were tested (16,2 ? 0,5 years, 179,3 ? 7,4 cm, 72,5 ? 7,7 kg a 22,5 ? 1,6 kg?m-2 BMI). Four measurements were performed to observe and detect changes in the hydration status. Three measurements were performed in the training unit and one in the competition. It was found
that the players were on average in the serious hypohydration zone before and after performance, 1,033 ? 0,005 and 1,038 ? 0,003 respectively. On average, the players received 663 ? 185 ml?h-1 of fluids during the performance, which can be characterized as adequate in relation to the capacity of the digestive tract to absorb fluid during performance. Percentually, players lost 0,73 ? 0,32 % of body weight after exercise, which cannot be considered serious and at losses of up to 2 % of body weight of players the performance should not be adversely affected. The correlation between specific urine density and subjective evaluation of fluid intake appeared to be relatively directly dependent only in the first measurement (r=0,6036, 0,5096) according to the correlation coefficient. The results of the measured specific urine density before loading confirm that most players did not evaluate their daily intake correctly. It has been found that hydration status of ice hockey players in this age group is significantly inadequate both before
and after the performance and it is necessary that athletes are properly and factually informed about the importance of hydration.
