The thesis deals with the analysis of the story "Mein ist die Rache" written by the Austrian Jewish author Friedrich Torberg. The novelette tells a story of a Jewish prisoner of a fictional concentration camp. He tells his story retrospectively, in the safety of the American exile. The story ends with a point, which is hidden in the closing line of the story and which reveals that the two protagonists of the story are in fact one and the same person, who, having spent some time in a concentration camp, probably suffers from schizophrenia. As the book was published, the point provoked many contradictory reactions it was praised as well as criticised. The analysis and interpretation of the story focuses on the clarification of the point.
