Course objectives:
|
The aim of this course is to provide the students with an outline of Ukrainian grammar, pronunciation rules and orthography, the principles of Ukrainian accent, euphony, syntax and stylistics. At the beginning we shall mostly focus on the phonetics, we shall deal with phonetic exercises for pronouncing words, word collocations and different types of sentence patterns. This course shall provide the students with knowledge necessary for other disciplines such as morphology, stylistics and syntax. Another aim of this course is to teach the students the fundamental grammar and lexicon needed for their communication competence. During the lessons we shall confront the Ukrainian grammar system with the system of Czech grammar. Part of the course is also dedicated to translating short texts.

Requirements on student
|
Regular active participation, max. 2 absences, fulfilling the tasks assigned for each lesson, consulting dictionaries and other literature, searching for answers to difficult questions, following the current trends in language, active participation in discussion.
A written test on morphological features and forms of autosemantic parts of speech.
Understanding the rules for interpunction.

Ukrainian alphabet. Basic phonetic and graphic differences between Ukrainian and Czech.

Basic vowels and their pronunciation.

Pronunciation of the vowel ?i? in Ukrainian. Pronunciation of vowels with jot.

The system of consonants and the pronunciation of sibilants.
V
The system of consonants and their pronunciation.
VI
The system of consonants. Pronunciation of consonant groups.
VII
The system of consonants. Pronunciation of consonants at the end of the word.
VIII
Ukrainian accent.
IX
Accent and foot.
X
Pronunciation of prepositions before words. Enclitics and proclitics.
XI
Intonation of Ukrainian sentences. Affirmative sentence.
XII
Intonation of Ukrainian sentences. Interrogative sentence.

This course is designed for beginners and requires only a knowledge of Ukrainian alphabet and an ability to write on a basic level in Ukrainian. |
Competences acquired |
On outline of graphic, phonetic and orthographic system in present day Ukrainian. An ability to pronounce correctly and to intone sentences and words as well as to write in accordance with the Ukrainian orthography.
