Course objectives:
|
Instruction is focused on the basic semantic concepts, the semantic relations in the lexikon and disciplines dealing with lexical units. In lectures is also included detailed analysis of the basic lexikografic works. Instruction is in Spanish.

1. attendence and active participation
2. preparetion for classes, knowledge and aplication basic cientific texts about taught topics
During the semester, the student will complete a number of tasks based mainly on mandatory readings, audiovisual materials, interactive activities or searches on Spanish corpora.

Content
|
The course focuses on the following topics: 1. What is semantics? Meaning and extralinguistic reality, 2. Meaning according to Cognitive Linguistics, 3. Metaphor and metonymy, 4. Semantic relationships (synonymy, homonymy, polysemy, antonymy, hyperonymy and hyponymy) and tools for teaching the Spanish vocabulary to foreigners, 5. Causes and mechanisms of semantic change, 6. Origin of the Spanish lexicon, 7. The essencialist take on lexocopraphy, 8. Neology, Borrowing, and Code Switching.
