Course objectives:
|
The course prepares students for developing their bachelor thesis. It aims to develop the students' understanding of academic conventions and requirements in Jewish studies. Further, it provides insights into tools for gathering information and literature, and gives experience with useful writing techniques.

Requirements on student
|
Active participation, consultations with the thesis supervisor, in-class presentation of the thesis topic, submission of the thesis proposal + a sample chapter of an analytical text.
|
Content
|
The course will be organized in common sessions, individual work on the thesis proposal, and consultations with thesis supervisors. The students will present and comment each other's thesis proposals, revise these with regards to the feedback from fellow students and teacher. A thesis proposal approved by the thesis supervisor and submission of a sample chapter of an analytical text are the ultimate goals of the course.

Competences acquired |
The students will receive counseling in how to formulate a research question and develop a project description for their BA thesis, including research goals, methodology, current state of research, the student's original research contribution, and conclusions. They will receive insights in the formal requirements for a master thesis, data collection, evaluation of evidence, integration of multidisciplinary approaches, consistent reasoning, analytical writing, and oral communication skills by summarizing and discussing arguments. |
