The thesis was my final academic work (document) to fulfill the requirement for the completion of Master in Physical Education and Sports in the branch of Physical Activity and Active Living. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Josef Mitas.
The title of the thesis was (Physical activity and quality of life in Czech adults population) and the purpose of the thesis was to investigate and describe the environmental influence on physical activity levels in the contest daily and weekly average steps and its potential influence on health and quality of life in Czech adults. This was to help addressing the importance of physical activity and its promotion to increase the level of participation or engaging PA in the Czech Republic.
Data was obtained from INDARES (online international platform for data collection for research purposes) though IPAQ,and ANEWS questionnaire and pedometer. Sample was 1586 Czech adults both males and females age from 24 to 65 years. Under the supervision of Prof. Josef Mitas randomly systematic screening was done using the demographics including surname, age, date of birth, BMI, height and ? location. Basic descriptive data analysis was done using STATISTICA software and results were presented in tables, charts, graphs and text.
The results indicated the following findings based on the research questions
a. 41.1% of Czech adults meet the recommended guidelines of 10,000 steps per day, while 58.89% do not meet this goal.
b. 76.9% of Czech adults meet the guidelines of more than 3000 MET-minutes/week, indicating a high level of physical activity, while 23.1% do not meet this guideline.
c. Male adults demonstrated high level of PA compared to females in both objective (47.2 % vs. 36.3 %) and self-reported monitoring (78.8% vs. 75.3%.
d. Adults in Czech Republic who meet both guidelines for steps and MET minutes are suggested to have improved health and quality of life.
e. Adults in Czech Republic living in high walkable areas are more active than those living in low walkable areas.
The study could not describe the level of sedentary behavior of the Czech adults because of inadequate information on sedentary life of the adults. Also, time delay in results might be various from current situation.
