Research Problem
Despite the importance of critical thinking skills in academic and professional contexts, many students still struggle to develop these skills due to the lack of effective teaching strategies that promote these skills. This research problem addresses the need to identify teaching strategies that can improve critical thinking skills in students, who are often expected to analyze complex problems and make informed decisions.
Research aim
This study aims to identify and investigate the various teaching strategies that can promote the development of critical thinking skills in students and to provide recommendations for how these strategies can be adequately utilized. This will involve exploring different methods of instruction, such as problem-based learning, debates, inquiry-based learning, and interdisciplinary teaching strategies.
Research Objective
1. To review the literature on critical thinking and teaching strategies for promoting critical thinking in higher education.
2. To identify and evaluate the process of different teaching strategies (problem-based learning, debates, interdisciplinary teaching and inquiry-based learning) in developing critical thinking skills among students.
3. To develop recommendations for teaching strategies that can effectively promote critical thinking skills in students.
Research Methodology
Quantitative research design
Sample size: 150 selected future teachers at the pedagogical faculty of Palacky University in Olomouc
Research instrument: A digital self-developed and validated Questionnaire titled "Development of critical thinking skills in higher education through teaching strategies questionnaire (DCHTSQ)”
