The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the families communicated about death and to reflect on communication about death in families from the perspective of adult children, i.e. to look back to the period of childhood and to try to describe how communication about death took place in the families of the participants and how they evaluate it retrospectively. The research focuses on the communication about death in childhood and the subsequent reflection of the participants with respect to time. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part defines the concept of death and topics related to death, the perception of death in childhood, as well as the principles of communicating about death with children. Within the theoretical part, researches that deal with this topic are also presented. In the research part I deal with the actual description of the research. For the purpose of this thesis, a qualitative design was chosen. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted (4 women, 4 men) with participants aged between 21 and 29. Subsequently, the interviews were transcribed and the data were analysed using thematic analysis, from which the following themes and subthemes emerged: perceptions of death in childhood, the moment of first communication about death in the family, death of pets, satisfaction with the moment of first communication about death in the family, notification of death in the family, lying about death, participation in funerals in childhood, reflection on children's participation in funerals, reflection on communication about death in the family, current perceptions of death and communication about death with the child. Interpretation of the data suggests that communication about death is individual within families, but is often taboo and not adequately addressed according to most participants.
