Origin and composition of soil, basic properties, classification. Distinction from other building materials - particulate nature, polyphase system. Soil formation. Clay minerals. Description of soils. Filtration, deformation and strength properties. Strain, stress state, principle of effective stress. Application tasks solution - slope stability, mechanics of flat substructure, earth loads, filtration stability of ground constructions. Permeability, compressibility of soil. B asic laboratory and field testing of soils. Technology of footing, excavation pits. Bearing power, deformation of grounds. Principles of basement soil amelioration. Basic principles of monitoring in geotechnics. Treatment of soil as building material.
