Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to present basics to research and method in geography. Furthermore, the student will get acquainted with information about the position of geography among other sciences and will improve elemental geographical thinking. Unconventional and game methods will also be shown on examples from the field of geography. Last but not least, the principles of project management will be outlined so that the student is able to compile a geographical project. All with regard to the geoinformatics aspects of the study of geographical disciplines.

Requirements on student
|
Student should express his/her gained knowledge of topics within the content of the course (exam). Elaboration of assigned exercises, solving an independent practical task (semester work - geographical project) will be part of the exam as well.

Content
|
The course is focused on the practical elaboration of a geographical project of a selected topic. In addition to a theoretical basis on the position of geography among the sciences and methodological training, students will develop their own geographical thinking. Students will also get acquainted with non-traditional geographical tasks and concepts.
The subject covers game elements that will make it easier to acquire new knowledge and skills. The subject also serves as a platform for teamwork in the chosen geoinformatics topic.

8. Non-traditional geographical tasks and concepts (kite, smell and soundscape mapping, psychogeography - Dérive)
9. Gamification in geographical research - wherigo, geocaching, geographical quizzes, and field navigation tasks

Competences acquired |
The course is focused on gaining knowledge and skill in geographical methods, the position of geography among the sciences, and ways of working with modern technologies. The student will be able to orient in the terminology, describe existing approaches, demonstrate theoretical knowledge for solving model problems using GIS, and process it all in the form of a geographical project. |
