Course objectives:

The lecture is aimed to teach basics of particular spectroscopic methods mentioned bellow.

Content
|
Mass spectroscopy (MS) - principle and application; experimental setup; types of ionization; mass analyzers; MS detectors; MS spectrum; molecular ion and its fragmentation; effect of natural isotopes
Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) - principle and exploitation; magnetic properties of atoms and molecules; relaxation; chemical shifts and spin-spin splitting; instrumentation in NMR; monitoring of chemical exchange due to NMR
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) - principle and exploitation; experimental setup; spin-orbital and spin-spin interactions in EPR
Roentgen spectrometry - theoretical basics; application of primary Roentgen radiation; application of secondary Roentgen radiation (Roentgen fluorescence spectrometry); exploitation of X-ray absorption (Roentgen absorption spectrometry); X-ray diffraction (crystals, powders, liquid crystals)
Basics of electron spectroscopy - principles and applications: photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS); Auger electron spectroscopy (X-AES, E-AES)
Basics of X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF)
Basics of laser spectrometry - principle of laser; significant types and examples of lasers; laser spectroscopy - linear, nonlinear and special methods
Neutron diffraction and neutron activation analysis (NAA) - principles; experimental setup; applications
