Course content
The field of study is focused on the area of primary prevention to identify, eliminate and reduce the causes of infectious and nonifectious diseases. Epidemiological methodology contains: epidemiological indicators, epidemiological studies (descriptive, analytical, intervention), screening. Epidemiology of infectious diseases contains: nosocomial infections, epidemiology of bact. and vir. resp. infections, immunization, epidemiology of viral hepatitis, epidemiology of zoonosis, epidemiology of disappearing diseases, AIDS, emerging diseases, smallpox, tetanus, diarrheal infections and travel medicine. Epidemiology of noninfectious diseases is focused on the epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases, epidemiology of cancer, metabolic diseases, nutrition, drug dependence, work environment risk factors and environmental risk factors.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Demonstration
Learning outcomes
Student gets familiar with epidemiological characteristics of important infectious and non-infectious diseases. The process of spreading of infectious diseases in a population (epidemic process) and its regularities will be described in detail. Student will learn how to construct an epidemic curve, evaluate epidemiological trends, and use databases and ISIN system reports. Model situations of epidemics and their solution algorithms will be presented. The aim of the course is to get the students familiar with epidemiological investigation in case of epidemics and with proposal of epidemiological measures.
After training, students will be able to appreciate the population approach to studying diseases in a population; to design a simple epidemiological study; to understand results of research published in medical literature; to take measures within prevention of infectious and non-communicable diseases and to be able to apply means of prevention.
