Course content
Overview of the field. Basic and advanced examination techniques. Acute and chronic diseases of the ear, middle ear in adults and children. Impaired hearing. Surgical management of the middle ear and mastoid cells. Diagnostics and management of hearing loss. Hearing aids. Surgery of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Pharyngeal pathologies. Laryngeal diseases. Head and neck oncological surgery. TNM classification. Speech disorders and their management. Diseases of salivary glands, diagnostics and therapy. Urgent and life-threating situations in otorhinolaryngology.

Learning outcomes
Anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the ear, nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx, voice box and external neck, basic audiology, head and neck oncological surgery.
After completion of the course, students will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in the diagnosis and therapy of head and neck pathologies, at the level required for general practitioners. They will learn capacities and limitations of otorhinolaryngology, as well as indications for ENT consultations. They will acquire basic knowledge to be able to provide first medical aid in life-threatening airway pathologies.

90% attendance. Credit and oral or written exam.
