Course content
The subject provides information about reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in organism, in physiological processes (exercise) and their function in pathogenesis of selected disorders (gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, kidney, eye, skin) and the use of using antioxidants. Overview of methods monitoring antioxidant capacity, level of individual antioxidants, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, oxidative stress, and products of oxidatively damaged molecules is done

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The subject enlarges information about classification and function of free radicals in organism, oxidative stress, antioxidant capacity, function of free radicals in physiological processes (exercising) and their role in pathogenesis of selected diseases (cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, liver, skin, kidney, eye, etc.) and antioxidant treatment. The subject makes a survey on methods and approaches enabling measurement of free radicals, antioxidant capacity, oxidative stress and its markers.
After completion of the subject the student acquires a broad view on function of free radicals in organism based on updated knowledge in this field. Students will be able to utilize the obtained information in clinical practice.
