Course content
1. Introduction: historical, cultural and philosophical frame. 2. Formation of Castilian language and the first literary manifestations 3. "Ministry of jongleury", songs of heroic deeds (chansons de geste): Cantar de Mio Cid 4. "Ministry of clergy" of the 13th century: Gonzalo de Berceo 5. Beginnings of narrative and theatre: Juan Manuel 6. Poetry of the 14th century: Juan Ruiz 7. Courtly literature of the 15th century: Jorge Manrique 8. El romancero and popular lyric 9. Narrative and theatre of the 15th century: Celestina

Learning outcomes
This course is focused on the important Spanish literary movements and authors from 12th to 15th centuries. The seminar is based on commentaries on the reading of medieval texts in original version.
Knowledge of literary history of given era, ability to interpret and analyse selected texts, application of selected theoretical approaches.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of literary theory, development of language and history of medieval Spain.

Mark, Oral exam, Written exam, Essay, Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)

1. regular attendance and active participation in lectures and seminars 2. preparation for each class, knowledge of the analysed text The final test examines orientation in literary history and theory of given time period.
