Course content
|
During the seminars, we will cover the following topics using QGIS software: Cartographic processing - bivariate cartograms and legends, blending layers, using masks, globe visualisation, orthodromes and loxodromes, multi-attribute labels, and atlas creation. Network analysis using QNEAT3, creation and analysis of DEMs including 3D visualisations, spatial statistics

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to provide students with a practical understanding of the advanced functions and tools of the freeware geographic information system (GIS) software QGIS, particularly in the areas of network analysis, raster analysis and spatial statistics, and their cartographic representation. The course fulfils the key competences for teacher training graduates: 1.1 I understand the subjects I teach and continue to develop my knowledge of them; 1.2 I convey the content of the subjects I teach to pupils in a pedagogically appropriate manner, in accordance with their educational needs; and 2.2 I identify pupils' educational needs and plan lessons so that every pupil is able to participate actively and achieve the set objectives.
Students will acquire the skills to work with plug-ins that extend the basic tools of QGIS software and enable the creation of advanced analyses and cartographic outputs that can be used in teaching or professional practice. Upon completion of the seminars, future teachers will have strengthened the following competences: - actively using modern digital technologies (linked to Competence Frameworks 1.14) - creating cartographic outputs as part of teaching materials and worksheets (linked to Competence Frameworks 1.2.2 and 2.2.3)

Prerequisites
|
Successful completion of the KGG/MAG course 'Maps and GIS', in which students learn the basic skills required to use the QGIS software.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Dialog, Final project
Regular active participation in seminars (1 absence). Creation of an independent cartographic project on a specialist or educational topic, using new plug-ins. The student will produce an independent cartographic work on an educational theme. (linked to competences 1.2.2 and 2.2.3)
