This course combines criminal law theory with the practical work of a prosecutor at a district prosecutorś office. The course is intended primarily for students who are considering a future career in criminal law and are interested in learning about the day-to-day work of a prosecutor. The goal of the course is to teach students how to work with a public prosecutorś case file and to familiarize them with the most common actions and decisions that a public prosecutor makes in the course of their duties at a district prosecutorś office. As part of the course, students will be introduced to the specifics of a public prosecutorś work at each stage of criminal proceedings. The individual seminars are conducted partly as lectures and partly as discussions, during which students analyze specific actions taken as part of supervisory activities in a concrete case and propose possible solutions. Active student participation is therefore expected throughout the seminar. During the semester, students will draft submissions or decisions by a public prosecutor based on model cases.
Building on their theoretical knowledge?particularly from criminal law courses?students will develop the skills needed to draft a public prosecutor?s submission and to navigate a public prosecutor?s case file. Using a real case file, they will examine the communication between the public prosecutor and law enforcement agencies. They will gain an understanding of the public prosecutor?s role in criminal proceedings and non-criminal matters. |
