Course content
Preterm birth, foetal viability, diagnostics and treatment of a preterm new-born. Extremely immature new-borns. Apnoea and bradycardia. New-born Breast Cancer Syndrome (RDS). Bronchopulmonal dysplasia. Nursing care for a preterm new-born. Hyperglycaemia and hypoglycaemia in the new-born. Hypotension in the new-born. Nutrition of preterm new-born. Necrotizing enterocolitis. Retinopathy of prematurity. Nosocomial infections. Transport of a new-born Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) - Ethical issues of providing intensive and resuscitative care to new-borns at the border of viability. Death of the new-born - infancy, organization of care for new-born risk after discharge into home care, counselling centres, early care centres, monitoring psychomotor development of children, counselling, vaccination.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to prepare students for the provision of highly specialized care for the new-born who is hospitalized in an intensive care unit and the department of intermediate neonatal care.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to provide a highly specialized care to a high-risk and pathological new-born hospitalized in the NICU and the department of intermediate neonatal care.
