Course content
The main themes of the subject are: Neonatology care system, organization of work in the neonatal department. - Division of the perinatal period and classification of neonates - developmental period of the new-born, classification of new-borns according to the relationship of birth weight and gestational age, hypotrophic new-borns, premature new-born, postmature new-born. - Anatomical and physiological characteristics of a mature and immature new-born - characteristics of a mature new-born and its physical features, characteristics of immaturity and immaturity of functions. - Early postpartum period - changes in blood circulation after birth, mechanisms of initiation of breathing, removal of pulmonary fluid, clinical condition of postpartum adaptation of the new-born, thermoregulation. - First examinations and treatment of the new-born - Bonding. - Care for the new-born in the physiological neonatal department, educating mother and training. Breastfeeding. Pathological conditions in the neonatal age - basic differential diagnostics. providing thermoneutral environment at the ICU (advantages and disadvantages of incubators and open beds).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to give a comprehensive overview of neonatology care system, organizing work in the neonatal department, specific perinatal period and classification of new-borns, and also to highlight the anatomical and physiological features of a mature and immature new-born.
Upon completion of the course students will be familiar with providing specialized care in neonatology.
