Course content
World health organization. Public Health Medicine. Indicators of Health Systems. Ethics and Genetics, History and Presence. Basic Statistical Terms. Test of Significance. Conditional and Inverse Probability. Some Major Ethical Questions, Applying the Principal of Medical Ethics. Euthanasia and Allowing to Die. Ethics of Birth and Termination of Human Life. Ethics as Branch of Philosophy. Demography in medicine. Ethics and Morals. Future of Health in the European Region. Life style or way of life? Causality of Diseases, Determinants of Health.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to present the (social, economic) determinants of health and disease in a national and European/international context using group interactive teaching methods, to show the importance of demographic indicators for assessing the health status of the population at the national and international level; to provide students with information on national, European and global health strategies; emphasize the importance of the social responsibility of medicine, including the accentuation of basic ethical principles; to present general ethical dilemmas in medicine and specifically to practice ethically questionable situations of contemporary medicine in the context of the Czech Republic and the whole world and to introduce students to the process of digitization of healthcare.
After passing the subject, the student will be able to implement the knowledge about economical, systematical and epidemiological aspects of health and illness into the process of providing health care. The student should also be able to orientate himself in the special areas of medical ethics and his approach to the patients should be based on basic moral principles and standards.

Ethical pre-understanding in the medical field.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Credit requirements: 1) Completion of presentation and presenting in the seminar about health status of the country of students origin. Details will be explained during particular seminar (07.04.2021). 2) Knowledge of all topics will be tested by the final credit test. The threshold for getting credits is at least 70 % success rate. Practical Requirements: All international medical students will be able to: - Present and discuss health status of population in their home country, - Present and discuss health status of population in their host country - Czech Republic, - Present key ethical principles covered by the WMA ethical. declarations (Geneva, Lisbon, and Helsinki).
