Course content
Content: 1. Protection of environment in the EU. EU environmental policy. 2. Principles of EU environmental policy. 3. European law as an environmental policy tool. Sources of the European environmental law. The legislative procedure and legal basis for adoption of environmental measures. 4. Implementation and enforcement of European environmental law. 5. Institutional arrangement of environmental protection in the EU. 6. European Court of Justice and environmental protection. 7. European tools of environmental protection (legal, conceptual, economic, administrative etc.). 8. The right to environmental information; Public participation in environmental protection in examples from case law of the ECJ. 9. Environmental Impact Assessment on examples from case law of the ECJ. 10. Legislation on protection of nature and countryside on examples from case law of the ECJ. 11. Legislation on air and water protection on examples from case law of the ECJ. 12. Legislation on waste management on examples from case law of the ECJ

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to provide those students who are interested in specialization in environmental law with a chance to expand their knowledge gained in the Environmental law course to European dimensions of environmental protection and gain familiarity with both EU law on environmental protection and relevant case law of EU Court of Justice.
By attending the EU Environmental Law course the students will broaden their knowledge of environmental law and practise thein analytical and presentation skills.

Student performance

Colloquy is obtained based on active participation of the student in the course activities and based on knowledge and development of appropriate skills.
