Learning outcomes
Addressing health inequalities is a key activity of the EU Health Strategy. Addressing health inequalities effectively requires policies that include measures to address realtions of health issues across the entire spectrum of society, as well as measures that are targeted specifically at minority and specific populations, ie people with health and mental disabilities, migrants, homeless people, Roma and other nationalities, ethnic and cultural minorities and socially disadvantaged groups of population. Health support and protection and disease prevention among these people are important priorities in the Czech Republic. Minority and specific population groups have different, specific needs within their identity and thus different communication requirements. This course is conceived as both theoretical and practical. The course deals with the culture of minorities and specific groups of the population with an emphasis on the specifics of the communication competences. Respecting the right to own cultural values and beliefs is one of the criteria for quality of care. Course will deepen students' knowledge of the principles of effective communication with people with special needs.
Student will be able to understand the specific needs of the minority and specific groups of the population in order to apply appropriate professional approach to these people. Student will also learn the rules of effective communication and deepen the communication skills by analyzing the model situations so he can apply the acquired knowledge in practice, not only in the Czech Republic but also in the EU countries.
