Course content
1. Basic economic terms, systems and issues (private and public sector, public interest, public choice, public finance) 2. Market failures and state interventions (externality, public property, asymmetrical information, state interventions) 3. State budget 4. Public costs (income inequality, impact of and tools for alleviating pension disparity - social security, financing healthcare and education) 5. Public revenue (introduction to taxation and tax policy, tax system, tax impact) 6. Fiscal policy 7. Budget deficit and public debt 8. Municipal and regional budget

Learning outcomes
The course will present the student the principles of market economy (demand and offer curves) and to explain the concept of public sector and the role of public finance; to clarify the role of the state and its tools (monetary and fiscal policy) in market economy.
The student will acquire the economic reasoning behind state interventions in a market environment, the ability to identify the aspects of development in the public sector. Students will be able to formulate viewpoints to various aspect of public finance. They will be able to analyse budgets on different levels of public administration and self-administration and make assessments.
