Course content
Definition of public health, epidemiological methodology of work, process of disease transmission, organization and tasks of hygienic service in relation to dental practice, epidemiology and prevention of respiratory and alimentary diseases, disinfection and sterilization in dentistry, basics of ethics and communication in dental practice, management, personal management and economics of dental practice, health care systems, financing of healthcare in the Czech Republic, reimbursement mechanisms, labour law aspects of dental practice.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the multidisciplinary field of Public Health in order to understand the phenomena that take place between society and health in practice. The course will cover the basic areas of public health, namely epidemiology, organisation and financing of health care, law and legislation of health service provision.
To acquire the professional competence to prevent disease, assess the advantages and disadvantages of healthcare systems, orientate in personnel management, economics of dental practice and the basics of labour law in relation to the provision of health services.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of microbiology, immunology and internal medicine.
