Course content
Teaching blocks: Definition and classification of diabetes and glucose intolerance disorders. Classification of diabetes in pregnancy. Etiopathogenesis and incidence of different types of diabetes. Diagnosis and treatment options for diabetes. oGTT. Diabetes compensation checks. Self-monitoring. Complications of diabetes. Pregnancy and DM. Gestational DM. GDM screening in pregnancy. Prenatal care and delivery management in women with DM and GDM. Postnatal care for women with GDM.

Learning outcomes
This course provides a basic orientation in the field of diabetology, focusing on the classification of individual types of diabetes and complications of DM. Special emphasis is placed on providing care to pregnant women with DM and GDM.
Students will gain an overview of the basic issues involved in the diagnosis and treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and in particular GDM and its complications. They will be prepared to treat pregnant women with GDM.

Assessment methods and criteria
Dialog

Active participation in classes and minimum attendance of 90% at seminars and exercises. Oral colloquium and completion of assigned tasks. In case of higher absence, agree with the teacher on making up for the missed classes. Attendance in seminars and practicals.
