Course content
Basic general neurology. History and neurological examination. Basic clinical examination methods, EEG, EMG, sonography, CSF analysis, examination of cortical defects, neuroimaging (CT, MRI, PET, SPECT). Cerebrovascular diseases, basic clinical symptomatology. Epilepsy - type of seizures, diagnosis, therapy. Craniocerebral trauma, first aid, disorders of consciousness, diagnosis and therapy. Infectious diseases of the brain and meninges. Demyelinating diseases of the CNS. Vertebrogenic, muscular and degenerative diseases.

Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical-practical unit for midwives. Students are introduced into clinical conditions and diseases which affect the nervous system. Particular emphasis is put on females diseases related to pregnancy, labour and postpartum period, affecting health and quality of life of the female and her family. Principles of general neurology. Basic clinical methods of examination. Basic clinical symptoms of cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, inflammatory and demyelinating diseases of CNS. Craniocerebral injury, vertebrogenic, muscular, and degenerative diseases. Nursing process in serious neurological diseases, particularly in patients with a severe impairment of motor functions. Manifestations of selected metabolic disorders in pregnancy.
Students acquire knowledge about neurology necessary for nursing process in pregnancy, labour and postpartum period.
