Course content
Pathological newborn, hypotrophy, prematurity, post maturity, specific issues of premature newborn, viability, ethical issues of resuscitation of premature newborns, Basics of clinical genetics in neonatology. Fetal and newborn infections. Asphyxia and care of a newborn with asphyxia, Breathing disturbances, basics of artificial pulmonary resuscitation in newborn period, oxygen therapy, Pathological newborn- particularities of the individual assessment of the needs, nursing diagnostics, objectives, interventions a nursing plan with educational elements towards mother, evaluation of nursing outcomes. Cardiac, hematological and neurological diseases in newborn period, digestive system diseases, diabetic fetopathy- Particularities of the assessment of the needs, nursing diagnostics, objectives, interventions a nursing plan with educational elements towards mother, evaluation of nursing outcomes, demonstration of nursing activities in clinical conditions.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on care of a pathological newborn and newborn intensive care, congenital development defects and their possible treatment. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Students will be able to assess the actual condition and adaptation reactions of the newborn and to provide care to at-risk and pathological newborns, they will acquire more detailed knowledge of diagnostics and therapy of congenital development defects in newborns.

Attendance in seminars and practicals. The student is required to work with the learning objects, which have been created for the concrete subject and are available for authorized students in LMS EDIS.
