Course content
|
Structure of healthcare facilities, categories of healthcare professionals. Care for a safe environment, principles of asepsis, disinfection, sterilization, PPE. Admission, transfer, and discharge of patients. Hygiene care, patient bed care, patient positioning. Monitoring of physiological functions. Pain. Collection of biological material, principles of collection, types of collection. Issues of urine and stool excretion. Pharmacotherapy, principles of drug administration. Preparation and administration of injections, dilution of drugs. Peripheral and central venous access. Infusion therapy. Administration of transfusions. Diet therapy, nutrition and feeding of patients, parenteral and enteral nutrition. Wound care, dressing changes, suture removal. Care of drains and drainage, stomas, punctures. Care for the dying and deceased. Preparing patients for invasive procedures, preoperative preparation, postoperative care. Preparing sterile areas for aseptic procedures. Basic surgical instruments.

Learning outcomes
|
This course is designed as theoretical and practical, and its aim is to acquire basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to procedures for performing basic nursing procedures within the scope of one's professional competence.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Oral exam, Student performance, Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Systematic Observation of Student, Seminar Work, Written exam
Active participation of students in seminars and exercises. Absence of up to 10% of classes (seminars and exercises) is tolerated after prior written excuse to the course supervisor and completion of the missed material. In case of higher absenteeism, the student shall apologize in writing to the course coordinator, provide proof of the reason for the absence (e.g., a doctor's note), and agree on a replacement. In case of absenteeism of 30% or more, the student shall re-enroll in the course in the following academic year. Independent study preparation by students for exercises is required. During the course, students are continuously tested orally and in writing. Completion of the course - written credit test - max. 3 attempts (min. 70% success rate) and a theoretical-practical exam.
