Course content
The midwife will perform the following procedures: - Physical examination of the newborn, assessment of his vital signs - Assessment of pain manifestations in the newborn using available scales - Assessment of the risk of skin damage - Suctioning of the respiratory tract of the newborn with an endotracheal cannula - Assistance in inserting a gastric tube, verifying its position, feeding the child with a tube - Nutrition of the newborn using alternative techniques - Catheterization of the bladder of a female newborn - Assistance in ensuring the patency of the newborn's airway with an endotracheal cannula - Ensuring the patency of the newborn's airway with an endotracheal cannula on a model - Bathing the newborn in an incubator, on an open heated bed - Education of parents in the prevention of SBS, SIDS, NAS Time requirement: 80 hours

Learning outcomes
The aim of the practical training is to prepare a midwife for the implementation of theoretical knowledge into the practical handling of the highly specialized care of risk and pathologically pregnant women hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the delivery room, a new-born hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit, a child over 10 years of age in a paediatric intensive care unit with failing vital functions or danger of such failure.
After completing the course, students will be able to provide supervised, highly specialized care to newborns in the JIRP, IMP departments.
Prerequisites
The student is familiar with the issues of providing highly specialized care in the neonatal department of the ICU, IMP.

Student performance

100% attendance in the entire practical training. Writing a seminar paper on a topic related to the department.
