Course content
Philosophical roots of a qualitative approach - historical development Application possibilities of a qualitative research Basic characteristics of a qualitative research Preparation of a research project Non-probabilistic sampling methods Methods of data collection (interview, observation, focus group, estimates, analysis of documents) Complex qualitative research designs Procedures for analysis and interpretation of data grounded theory, narrative approach, IPA in practice Techniques for increasing the validity of qualitative findings Criteria for assessing the quality of qualitative studies

Learning outcomes
In this discipline students learn the basics of the qualitative approach in human science, philosophical roots of this approach and differences from the quantitative approach. They will also be introduced to the problem of non-probabilistic selections, the most widely used qualitative designs (case studies, evaluation, content analysis, grounded theory etc.), qualitative methods for collecting and creating of data (interview,focus group, observation, etc.) and qualitative-oriented researcher's position in relation to the concept of validity. Knowledge after the seminar: The student is well informed in basic terms, definitions of qualitative research and its discourse. The student understands and is oriented in qualitative design and basic qualitative methods. The student is well informed in the methods of respondent selection for qualitatively oriented research. Skills after the seminar: The student understands and uses basic qualitative meotdy of data collection. Students independently process and analyze qualitative data. The student carries out basic simple qualitatively oriented research.

This subject is compulsory (category A) Prerequisites: ZM1B, ZM2B, KMB, EM1B.

Students will study the compulsory literature and ppt presentation of lectures.
