Learning outcomes
Values are key psychological concepts, especially interconnecting other basic concepts such as attitudes and motives in general and social psychology, will and character in personality psychology, and morality in the psychology of ethics. Questions about the origin and the meaning of human goodness were primarily discussed by humanistic psychology, which returned the neglected concept of values to psychology and emphasised the importance of values in understanding human motivation and creating perspectives on life. Deeper psychological understanding of the values, however, cannot be achieved without an introduction to a wider context, as the development of psychology is closely linked to the intellectual, philosophical, theological, and sociological background. The aim of this course is to provide the students with a comprehensive insight into the psychological issues of values in accordance with the representative psychological disciplines. Students should also become familiar with the axiological paradigms of the contemporary psychology of morality, ethics, and other normative-dispositional categories. The final aim is to discuss the questions of value development, stabilisation, and change on both the individual and group levels.
