Course content
This course introduces students to the principles and activities of the general nurse in perioperative care. It teaches orientation in the operating room environment, observing the sterile regime and ensuring patient safety. Students learn to prepare the patient for surgery, work with the operating team, and respond to emergencies. Emphasis is placed on the prevention of complications, proper documentation, and effective team communication. Seminar and lecture topics: - The concept of perioperative care, its division - Role of the perioperative nurse, safety of perioperative staff - Education in perioperative care, professional competencies of the perioperative nurse - Multidisciplinary team - Organisational and operational specifics of the operating theatre - Hygiene and epidemiology in perioperative care - Practical training for selected surgical procedures

Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to basic information on perioperative care, current legislation, lifelong learning, the operating team, the operating environment, competencies and activities of the perioperative nurse.
Roles of the operating team members, operating theatre environment and its division, preparation of the operating theatre, principles of asepsis and antisepsis, sterility in the operating theatre, prevention of sharps injuries in perioperative care.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Analysis of linguistic, Dialog, Systematic Observation of Student

Minimum 75% attendance at lectures and seminars, 100% attendance at exercises. Verification of practical skills within the framework of a colloquium.
