| Course content |
|
The first part of the teaching block will include lectures on the diagnosis of diseases and distortions of the musculoskeletal system, basic therapeutic interventions in orthopaedics, acute conditions, paediatric orthopaedics, etc. Subsequent seminars will elaborate on selected orthopaedic procedures including postoperative care, postoperative outcome assessment, complications and interdisciplinary collaboration. Starting on the 3rd teaching day, students will rotate between selected outpatient clinics and operating rooms. The third part of the block is planned to be downright practical: a stay in an outpatient clinic or operating room, and following discussion. During the course, students will learn the general principles of diagnosis and therapy of the most common orthopaedic diseases. Special attention will be paid to acute conditions in orthopaedics.

Orthopaedics is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of conditions and injuries affecting the musculoskeletal system. This course serves as an essential foundation in orthopedic medicine, catering to students pursuing basic medical training. With a focus on the diagnosis, students are equipped with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills appropriate for the basic training in medicine. The aim is to offer the students basic theoretical overview as well as practical styles, habits appropriate for ambulatory and hospital practices.
Graduates are able to understand basic orthopaedic terminology, diagnostic algorithms, and therapeutic interventions. They should be able to obtain patient history related to musculoskeletal diseases, perform basic examination of musculoskeletal system, understand general principles of technical orthopaedics and postoperative care. |

1) Anatomy and physiology of the MS system 2) Basic pathologies of MS tissues 3) Knowledge on the diagnostic methods (lab, imaging, neurology, physiotherapy) 4) Basic treatments (pharmacological, non-pharmacological incl. physiotherapy) 5) Practical skill related to obtainig patient history.
