Learning outcomes
The course "Dutch 1" is a C-type course and it is designed for the students of all the other departments of the Philosophical Faculty of the Palacký University (PU) as well as for the students studying at the other faculties of the PU or coming to the PU within the framework of the student mobility programmes such as LLP Erasmus, CEEPUS. These students with typically no pre-knowledge of Dutch are being introduced to the Dutch language and culture with taking into account the "Silent Period" theory. The aim is to bring them within the course of 1 to 4 semesters (within the framework of the follow up courses "Dutch 2-4") to the basic language level (approx. A1 resp. A2 - CEFR; participating in these courses motivates some of the students for enrolling to one of the bachelor study programmes at the Dutch Department of the Palacký University). The primary emphases lies on building up Dutch vocabulary, basic lexical and oral skills. In order to achieve these goals we make use of the audio-lexical method Spreken is zilver (Module 1) and co-operate in an intensive way with the author of this complex and multifaceted method which contains among others the following methodological approaches: TPR, TPR+, drama, co-operative learning, exploiting songs/music according to the Nederlied protocol, exploiting authentic materials.
