Course content
Theoretical background of translation studies and systematic analysis of selected texts and their translations.

Learning outcomes
The course focuses on developing theoretical and practical skills in the field of literary translation from Dutch into Czech. Students will become familiar with the main approaches and methods of literary translation, with the issues of transferring stylistic, poetic, and cultural elements, and with questions of literary text interpretation in the translation process. The course emphasizes the analysis of text types characteristic of Dutch-language literature, working with linguistic norms, and choosing appropriate translation strategies. The course includes practical translation exercises, discussions of translation solutions, and reflection on the ethical aspects of literary translation. The aim of the course is to develop the ability to create stylistically accurate, culturally adequate, and reader-friendly literary translations.
Competence to translate literature and cultural texts.
Prerequisites
Sufficient knowledge of Dutch, theoretical knowledge of translation studies.
