Course content
|
The course provides an overview of the reception of Dutch and Flemish literature in Central Europe in the form of literary translations. The situation in German (especially in Austria), Czech, Croatian, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak, Slovenian and Serbian will be gradually discussed. Furthermore, attention is paid to individual important literary translators and their position in the literary field. Course schedule: 1) Introduction. Research as a subject of research; 2) Literary Translation in Central Europe; Week 3) Reception of Dutch Literature in Germany; 4) Reception of Dutch literature in Austria; Week 5 - 6) Reception of Dutch literature in Hungary and Hungary; Week 7 - 8) Reception of Dutch literature in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic; 9) Reception of Dutch literature in Slovakia; Week 10 - 11) Reception of Dutch literature in Poland; 12) Course summary.

Learning outcomes
|
The course provides an overview of the reception of Dutch and Flemish literature in Central Europe in the form of literary translations. The situation in German (especially in Austria), Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak will be discussed. Furthermore, attention is paid to individual important literary translators and their position in the literary field.
Obtaining an overview of the Central European "canon" and the situation of Dutch and Flemish literature in Central Europe. Knowledge of basic processes of literature reception in translation.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of the Dutch language at least to levels B1 to B2 of the CEFR. Interest in the issues of literature in translation, basic knowledge of Dutch and Flemish literature and from the Czech and German literature. Slovak literature. The least basic English language skills (some of the texts are in English).
