Learning outcomes
The main aim of the course it to provide students with a general knowledge of private international law and its legal sources. The course is focused on specific problems of private international law, mainly on conflict of laws, European judicial area, as well as unification and procedural part of PIL (jurisdiction, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and judicial cooperation).
The students shall be able to: demonstrate a basic understanding of the way in which the various private international law instruments establish a consistent pattern of private international law, demonstrate a basic understanding of how private international law of the EU Member States is affected by the general principles of EU law; demonstrate a basic understanding of legal solutions to private international law problems arising in civil and commercial disputes and which have international implications; such as the jurisdiction of national courts; the ascertainment of the applicable legal system and the recognition/enforcement of foreign judgments.
Prerequisites
Skills and abilities - the student should possess ability: master a wide range of diverse sources of European and international law; assess legal and policy issues caused by the diverging European legal systems; discuss the issues involved in the harmonization and unification of private international law within the EU and the global law system

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark

The active participation during the tutors and three partial tests/one overall test are required as to the credit. The students must prove sufficient knowledge of PIL at the oral exam.
