Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Competition law in general 2. Fundamental terminology, aim of the protection of competition, anticompetitive agreements in general 3. Exemptions form anticompetitive agreements, abuse of dominant position 4. Application of the competition law in the sphere of antitrust 5. Mergers and acquisitions of the undertakings 6. Application of the competition law in Czech Republic. Seminar Topics: 1. Competition law in general, fundamental terminology 2. Anticompetitive agreements 3. Abuse of dominant position 4. Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the mechanism of legal regulation in the protection of competition and prepare them for the practical work with relevant courses of Community law and jusrisprudence. Students should gain knowledge of basic comprehension of certain activity from the viewpoint of competition law, propose solution in the interest of compliance and react to the legal actions of the Commission and Office of the Protection of Competition. The introductory part is aimed on the definition of basic concepts of Community competition law and its relation to other legal disciplines, as well as to the competition law on the national level of EU member states and other jurisdictions. Students will then be informed in detail about three basic institutions of competition law, that is with prohibited agreements, abuse of dominant position and the control of mergers. The final part is dedicated to the questions of Community competition law application, both on the Community and national level. All these themes will be analyzed with the special emphasis on the Czech Republic situation.
Students should gain knowledge of basic comprehension of certain activity from the viewpoint of competition law, propose solution in the interest of compliance and react to the legal actions of the Commission and Office of the Protection of Competition.

Completion of this course is not conditional upon completion of some other courses.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

It is essential that those students who would like to pass the course must have attendance within the scope set by the seminar teacher and succeed in the colloquium in the form of a written test.
