Course content
Obtaining of knowledge of taxonomy, morphology, genetic and physiological manifestations of microorganisms. Obtaining of basic overview in relation to most frequent infections, their epidemiology and diagnostic using modern molecular-biology techniques. Orientation in basic molecular-biology techniques used in medical microbiology. Overview of their basic indications and applicability. Interpretation of results. Diagnostic approach to patients. This basic knowledge will then be extended by the description of clinically important gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, culture-intensive bacteria, microscopic fungi, parasites and viruses. Furthermore, an overview of therapeutic options in the treatment of selected infectious diseases will be provided. Finally, students will be introduced to the basics of epidemiology and the principles of prevention of nosocomial diseases.
